Youth ministry resources generally fall into two classes: those you have to pay for and those that are free. The kind of youth ministry resources you use will therefore depend as much on your budget as on your actual wants and needs. Once you decide how much you can spend on products, you can proceed with your search for specific items.

If you’re stuck for ideas, I have a few suggestions for you. First of all, hand puppets are some of the most popular youth ministry resources around. Young people of all ages respond tremendously to puppets, so putting on a puppet show would be a wonderful way to get your message across.

There are several manufacturers that specialize in making a wide variety of Biblical characters, so you’ll be able to enact almost any kind of scene you want. In addition, there are ready-made scripts that you can purchase if you don’t have time to write your own.

Music is another tried and true means of connecting with your ministry’s younger members. There’s certainly no shortage of music with Christian lyrics out there, but it can be a somewhat daunting task to find songs that complement your lessons. By taking advantage of websites offering youth ministry resources and general help, however, you can dramatically cut your search times down. This means you’ll be able to spend less time preparing for your Sunday school classes or other meetings and more time reaching out to the youngsters that you care so much about.

So how do you start cooking?  First you need ingredients.

You don’t need the materials for any specific meals when you start cooking for yourself, but you’re going to need some basic ingredients.  Pasta and rice always serve as good bases for your meals, as do starches like potatoes.  You’ll want plenty of fresh vegetables, the more the merrier.

If you’re just starting to make meals that don’t consist of Top Ramen or feed-in-a-box, you’ll also want some spices to liven up your dishes.  Though you’ll eventually want to build up your collection, basil, garlic, and oregano serve as good bases that will do well complimenting many flavors.  Pick up some flour, sugar, butter, and milk if you don’t have them already, plus anything else that strikes your fancy.  One of the best guides is simply to buy ingredients you like, maybe your mom made a lasagna with sausage that you loved or your ex concocted a pasta of onions and garlic.  Whatever the ingredients, you can probably find a way to toss them together.

Once you’ve unpacked your finds, two schools of thought diverge when deciding what to do with your ingredients.  The first says go for it!  Toss together what sounds tasty and see where your tongue takes you.  You’ll usually want something filling like pasta or rice as a base along with something flavorful, vegetables and spices, to serve as a topping.  Too much base and you’ve got bland food, too much topping and your meal is confused and your flavors blend together.

The other school of thought supports recipes, lots of them.  Cookbooks are great, but don’t forget that the internet is one of the best utensils to use if you’re learning to cook, as you can search for simple recipes that use the ingredients you have to put together a meal you’ll love.  There’s no reason to be afraid of them either; recipes are just instructions which walk you through the process of preparing a meal.  A little chopping, a little boiling, and a little baking will have you cooking in no time.  If putting together an entire meal is a little too daunting, consider preparing your main dish and pulling side dishes from boxes or freezer bags; there’s no need to jump into everything at once.

A simple favorite Recipe that I hade in Tuscany: Eat it in the Hot summer with a cold reisling wine from Germany:

Buy

• 1 bag of good ravioli or tortellini, and filed shape will do, preferably pumpkin or acorn squash
• some good butter, salted. Try Kerry’s Irish Butter, my current favorite!
• Some fresh Sage.

Now, Boil some water and cook the ravioli until it floats. Take it out and drain it. While it drains, in the same pan, melt some butter over medium heat and take care not to let it sizzle. It should look yellow and foamy. If it starts to smoke turn down the heat. Gently warm it, really.

Now tear up about 5-10 sage leaves (stems too). tear them, don’t cut them. Doesn’t matter how big or small. Put them in the butter and the idea is to sort of get them to release their oils. Don’t burn them. It should start to smell fantastic. Add a little salt and fresh cracked pepper.

When the butter is really foaming and the sage has been in it for about 3-5 minutes return the pasta to it and stir to coat the pasta with the butter and sage.

Serve with some nice fresh parmesan cheese. You will impress your guests, promise.

For an added zing crush up some shelled pistachio nuts and sprinke them on the pasta when you serve them.

This dish is especially good for impressing in laws and girlfriends mothers.

Post if you have problems with it, but you can’t mess it up.

These days people from all walks of life search for the worlds finest chocolates. While every corner convenient store does carry a variety of chocolate, some of us are a little more finicky. During the world cup final championship, passions can run so high that fans actually fight, or sometimes kill each other in the stadium. It might be easy to miss if you are not from a soccer crazy country, but the fact is that just sitting in the wrong side of a soccer stadium with the wrong colors, or the wrong world cup soccer jersey on your back, could be really dangerous in quite a few parts of the world today.

I never study world cup soccer rankings, or follow the game that is called football in the rest of the world that closely, but I can still truly say that I love to watch the game on tv. I go to an Irish bar downtown in San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury district and, over a few drinks, watch the game with some of the rowdiest and most fun soccer hooligans this side of Manchester. Even if it is not world cup soccer on tv (sometimes it is just a club game, or a rugby match) it is almost a guarantee that the crowd will be really in to what is going on. Just being in a place with that kind of energy is almost all that I can handle.

But I am not just in to world cup soccer. I also like to play the game. I have a soccer team, and it is more fun than you can imagine. Without all of that rough and tumble physical activity, I am quite sure that I would go crazy on a daily basis. There are no two ways about it. Soccer is not my life, but it sure does improve my quality of life. There is no question that, because of soccer, I am much happier and healthier than I would ever be otherwise. There are no two ways about it. It is fun to watch a world cup soccer match on the tv, but it is even more fun to play soccer with some good friends on a Saturday afternoon.

The truth is, as I told my nephew, that there is no simple reason why people lie, and there isn’t even a simple way to say what a lie is. Is an omission a lie? Maybe, maybe not, but if it is, it certainly isn’t in the same way that a frank statement against fact is a lie. And is flattering someone, pretending that their dress looks better on them than it does for example, a lie? Before we can really answer the question of why people lie, we must be able to answer these questions, and there are no easy answers.

Some people lie because they can’t help it, and these are called pathological liars. They are so obsessed with being seen as interesting, unusual, or perhaps different than they are, that they are able and willing to make up the most outrageous stories about their lives, stories that no one will believe, to try to convince themselves that things are different than they really are.

Of course, this isn’t quite the same reason why people lie in general, but it is close. A simple answer to why people lie? Usually to impress others or to get out of a bad situation. Maybe they want to get away with not having done their homework, or having been late for work, or maybe they want others to think that they are more accomplished than they are so that they can have more respect from their peers. It is hard to tell in most situations why people lie, but it is easier to tell that they are lying.

One of the best cues to seeing that someone is lying is their body language. No matter why people lie, they tend to do it in certain ways that are easy to see once you learn the trick to it. They don’t necessarily fidget a lot, but often they will get stiffer than normal. To contrast this, they might use exaggerated gestures or speak with different language than they usually do. The bottom line is, that there are almost no people who can tell you why people lie, but anyone can learn to detect when other people are lying.

One thing game companies are well known for doing is making some changes to the game play, adding some things, and re-releasing the game as an upgraded version, usually called a “Gold Edition” or something like that.  Sim City 3000 Unlimited is the result of such a tactic.

If you were a huge fan of the game you may be interested in putting down a little more money to get the “upgraded” version.  While I loved Sim City 3000, Iíve always been a little skeptical about “gold” editions however.  A lot of the time the changes are so minor and trivial that you feel almost cheated by paying more for them.  If you have yet to buy the game at all its one thing, but if you already own the original its worth waiting to read some reviews about gold editions before buying one.  I didnít immediately run out to buy Sim City 3000 Unlimited when it was released, but waited until more recently.

Sim City 3000 Unlimited is one of the few upgraded releases that I feel was worth the extra dough.  You can do a lot more with Sim City 3000 Unlimited than you could with the original, yet the key game play components are untouched and therefore just as good as ever.  My favorite new feature in Sim City 3000 Unlimited is the ability to customize the landscape prior to the start of the game.  Since the starting terrain is so crucial, you can make the game as easy or as challenging as you want by tweaking it before you play.  The options here are impressive, allowing you full control of the landscape design.

There are a number of other new features in the game as well, more than enough to breath new life into it all over again.  There are a number of new tile sets and customization options for the actual building in the game as well, giving your city a huge range of possible looks.  Of course, the best thing about Sim City 3000 Unlimited is of course the really cheap price today.  Now several years old, you can pick up a copy of Sim City 3000 unlimited for under 10 bucks and try it out for yourself.

It is good sense, and sound planning. Although most of us are in denial, the fossil fuels which form the backbone of our world economy are dwindling quite rapidly, even as we go about our daily business in our cars.

Although few Americans use an alternative fuel source to commute, those who do are soon going to be at an advantage. If your alternative fuel source is your feet, whether through walking or bike riding, you are already at an advantage, taking care of your body and using transportation that is essentially free. However, even if you can not get around solely on your feet, it makes sense to start planning your life around alternate fuel sources now, before things go any farther.

Once the big oil crash happens, it will be a hardship on those who are unprepared to use an alternative fuel source. There will be a run on biodiesel vehicles, and an even greater demand for electric vehicles, causing skyrocketing prices, and shortages. In addition, many areas will probably not be adequately equipped to work with an alternative fuel source. There may be no where to even refill your biodiesel cars, and that will make things quite difficult. People will have become so hooked to the convenience of their gas powered vehicles, that they will not be able to really cope anyway. But if you plan your life around an alternative fuel source, you will have no trouble adjusting.

The most foolproof alternative fuel source is your own two feet, but after that comes public transit. If you live in an area where public transportation is already in place, and runs on electric vehicles, the chance is that your local economy will suffer far less damage from the fuel bust. The public transit, driven by an alternative fuel source, will be able to pick up the extra passengers who have been forced to suddenly give up their cars, and there will be minimal inconvenience. If you have an electric vehicle, you will similarly be in a good position, as electricity will always be a good alternative fuel source. No matter how bad the fuel crises gets, there is just no way that the government would let the national power grid collapse. Therefore, electricity makes a lot of sense.
